Civic Dance Center’s The Nutcracker auditions will be held Friday, August 25th and Saturday, August 26th, 2023. Our 46th annual production of The Nutcracker will be performed on December 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2023.

When you audition for The Nutcracker, you are auditioning to be in the cast, NOT for a specific role. DO NOT PLAN TO AUDITION IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO ACCEPT ANY ROLE. Our production of The Nutcracker has approximately 150-170 roles available. PARENTS, please take the time to explain to your child that if they are not cast in our production, it doesn’t mean they are a bad dancer. When casting a production, many factors come into play that are beyond a dancer’s control. We want the audition process to be a positive learning experience as it is a valuable part of their dance education. If they are not awarded a part in this year’s production of The Nutcracker, we feel the experience of the audition will prepare them for future success.

BEFORE YOU AUDITION, READ AND CAREFULLY CONSIDER THE REQUIREMENTS.

1. You must be willing to accept ANY role.
2. ALL participants that are cast will be required to pay a Production Fee due by September 15, 2023. Do not pay prior to casting. One performer: $120 / Additional performers: $75 (each additional dancer). The production fee covers your costume rental/cleaning, facility fees, as well as other various expenses required to produce a show of this magnitude.
3. Participants must attend all rehearsals. Plan on having rehearsals every weekend beginning the weekend of Sept. 8th, 9th, and 10th. Rehearsals will also be held the weekend before Thanksgiving: November 17th, 18th, and 19th. No rehearsals the weekend after Thanksgiving. Performers must reserve December 2nd through 10th for mandatory rehearsals and performances.
4. Keep track of your own rehearsal schedule! You are responsible for watching the bulletin board and online schedule for posted rehearsals and potential schedule changes. Unexcused absences may result in losing your role.
5. Dancers must take all of their regularly scheduled classes at Civic Dance Center to perform in The Nutcracker. Dropping classes after casting envelopes have been given is not permitted and will result in losing your part.
6. Do not cut, color, or change your hair after you audition without consulting the directors. Any extra body piercings or tattoos must be covered for the performances.
7. You must be available to perform the Young People’s Concerts: Thursday, December 7th from 8:45am to 12:00pm and Friday, December 8th from 8:45am to 12:00pm.
8. If you are cast as Overture, Ginger, Bon Bon, or Gumdrop Boy you will be required to attend rehearsal on December 5th or 6th that will begin before schools are finished. If you cannot make the arrangements to attend these rehearsals, do not audition.
9. If you are involved in band or choir, your winter concert or parade may conflict with rehearsals on December 2nd through 10th. No one will be excused from these rehearsals. Get your schedule from your band, choir, cheerleading, oral language, etc. director before you audition to make the best decision for you.

The Directors reserve the right to release any participant from the part they hold if the requirements listed above are not upheld.

AUDITION SCHEDULE

Audition Attire:

Girls: Solid leotard and pink tights. Hair in a bun. Flat and pointe shoes (if you are on pointe).

Boys: White fitted t-shirt, black fitted biker shorts or full footed tights. Hair styled/pulled away from the face.

You will only be allowed to audition with your age group. Audition age by September 30, 2023.

If you are 12 and have danced on pointe for a full season (summer and fall), please attend the Saturday audition for your age group.

Arrive 30 minutes prior to your audition time to receive your number and warm up.
