Mission

Civic Dance Center focuses on developing well rounded dancers through exposure to a variety of styles with an emphasis on classical ballet technique. All perspectives and individual talents are welcome to work constructively to achieve our shared values of discipline, imagination, and collaboration elevating our behavior both in and out of the studio by treating each other with professionalism, kindness, and respect.

History

1968

Cindy Trueblood began teaching and established what is now Civic Dance Center.

1978

Civic Dance Center accepted the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra’s invitation to be part of The Nutcracker Ballet which began an annual Bakersfield Christmas tradition that continues to this day.

1998

Awarded the Bakersfield Centennial Dance Award for outstanding contributions to the cultural heritage of Bakersfield by the Arts Council of Kern.

2002

Honored for 25 years of commitment to the enhancement of the arts by the Arts Council of Kern.

2017

Celebrated the 40th year of a Christmas party that ends in a dreamy adventure to the land of sweets with Clara, a magical Nutcracker, and the Sugar Plum Fairy.

2022

Cindy and Kevin Trueblood retire after 54 wonderful years at Civic Dance Center.

2022

Erica Ueberroth named as Executive Artistic Director with Ann Conrad as Associate Artistic Director and Alicia Angelini as Director of Jazz.
