Kathleen Hokit
Kathleen Hokit was born in Bakersfield and raised in Wasco, California. She started dancing at four under the expert guidance of Barbara Crettol at Northwest Ballet. Civic Dance Center has been her second dance home, where she has fond memories of attending the summer workshops and eventually joining the studio in high school.
Kathleen obtained her dance teacher training under the supervision of Barbara Crettol at Northwest Ballet, where she earned her very first paycheck. While gaining a higher education, Kathleen studied dance in Monterey and eventually gained bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the arts with a focus on sociology in Finland. While in Europe, Kathleen trained in flamenco, yoga, and tai chi. Kathleen is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in theatre pedagogy.
Since returning to Bakersfield, Kathleen has joined Civic’s staff, built and facilitated a creative movement dance program for a recreation and park district, and directed two middle school musicals. When she’s not at the studio, Kathleen works as a writer and editor, a passion that has led to an 18-year career. During her free time, Kathleen enjoys spending time with her husband and son and hiking the hills.
