Amanda Bishop
Teacher
Raised in Bakersfield, CA, Amanda Bishop’s love affair with ballet began at an early age. Her passion was undeniable, and her parents enrolled her at Martha Knight’s Bakersfield Ballet Theatre. Soon after, she joined Civic Dance Center, where she found the inspiration to further her training. Some of Amanda’s most cherished childhood memories come from her years at Civic, including performing in The Nutcracker.
Amanda’s journey as a teacher began in 8th grade, when she was invited to teach a ballet unit for her school dance class. The experience of guiding her peers and witnessing the positive impact of dance on their well-being ignited her passion for teaching. Over the years, she found opportunities to teach and choreograph, sharing her joy and expertise with others. Now, with 33 years of teaching experience, Amanda is grateful to be teaching at her “home studio” of Civic, doing what she loves!
Amanda holds certifications from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’s Dance Teacher University, Acrobatic Arts, and the Aerobics & Fitness Association of America (AFAA). In addition, she has earned 500-hour certifications in both Yoga and Pilates. Amanda’s ballet training includes intensive programs with The Rock School for Dance Education, Pennsylvania Ballet, Ballet Idaho, and Ballet West.
Beyond her professional achievements, Amanda treasures her personal life. She has been married to Steve Bishop for 26 years, and together they are proud parents of eight children.
Amanda’s teaching style is characterized by her love for her students, and her commitment to helping them grow in a nurturing environment. She strives to instill confidence, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for dance in every student she teaches.
